Business of the Year recognizes a local enterprise that goes above and beyond for Gabriola’s economic development and this past year’s recipient is no exception. Page’s Resort Group owner/operator, Gloria Hatfield, has been pouring her heart and soul into the business since 2007, continuously finding new ways to contribute to the community and local economy.
When Pier Gallery Artists Collective needed to relocate, Gloria provided a new retail space to support our local makers. She expanded the Sunday Market at Page’s Inn, accommodating more growers and artisans and connecting them with residents and visitors at Silva Bay. This south end attraction also supports local entrepreneurs, Chris and Sharon Hooton, with an audience for Woodfire Restaurant’s mobile food venture: Fire Truck Grill.
Have you shopped at Page’s Li’l Market? You’ll find a curated mix of locally-made and grown food, products, gifts, essentials, GaLTT trail maps, and over 400 titles by Gabriolan authors. These creative and collaborative Shop Local initiatives have forged a presence for retail on Gabriola’s southside that support residents, guests, and local business owners.
Our 2021 Business of the Year has evolved considerably since the 1940s when Jack and Les Page inspired the business’ familiar name, then Page Bros. Store & Fish Camp. The location has been home to family business before as a commercial fish camp owned by the Koyoma family in the 20s and since, as the Reeve family business in the 80s. Gloria took over the business in 2007 from her parents, Ted and Phyllis, expanding the marina and purchasing what is now Page’s Inn on Silva Bay in 2017.
This long history of innovation, collaboration, and business development has shaped present day Page’s Resort Group and will continue to inspire its future. We look forward to seeing what Gloria and her team dream up next.
