Position Description: Bookkeeper

The Bookkeeper is a contract position that supports the Gabriola Island Chamber of Commerce (GICC) Executive Director (ED). The Bookkeeper assists the ED in providing monthly financial reporting statements. The position will deliver this support through monthly tasks related to administration, organization, and communication.

The Bookkeeper is required to have their own tools for the job (computer and software). Flexible schedule with combined remote and at the GICC office. The position reports to the ED. The Bookkeeper hours will be an average of 10 per month and the wage is $40/hour depending on experience. This position has the opportunity to incorporate financial administration for the right candidate, with additional hours available.

Skills:

  • Financial Software Proficiency – Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) to maintain accurate
    financial records.
  • Attention to Detail – Ensure precision in recording financial transactions, expenses, and income.
  • Reconciliation Expertise – Conduct monthly bank reconciliations to align financial records with bank statements.
  • Payroll Processing – Manage employee payroll, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, taxes, and deductions.
  • Budget Management – Collaborate with management to create and maintain a budget within the $300,000 limit.
  • Recordkeeping – Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records for easy access and audit purposes.
  • Financial Reporting – Generate monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.

Responsibilities:

  • Monthly:
    ○ 1-2 work meetings/month (in person or on zoom)
    ○ Communication throughout reconciliation period with ED and the Finance Committee as required.
    ○ Provide monthly financial statements
    ○ Provide monthly payroll and remittance statements
  • Year-End Filing – provide documentation for accountant and work in communication to provide accurate
    and timely information for year-end accounting
  • Financial Audits – Prepare documentation for financial audits and assist auditors in their review.
  • Digital Management – Proficient in online navigation and tools to carry out activities.
  • Time Management – Efficiently manage tasks to meet monthly deadlines and reporting requirements.
