The New Business Award celebrates courage, dedication, and innovation in the local business community. Gabriola Disposal, our 2021 New Business Award winner, is a welcome addition to the services offered on Gabriola. Despite the challenges of Covid and as new parents, Nelson and Sadie Pacheco launched Gabriola Disposal in July of 2021. Their services include garbage and yard waste pickup as well as clearing mess and clutter – an offering islanders were expressing need for and highly value.
The Pachecos’ commitment is clear: provide a reliable, safe and friendly local service at a reasonable price. For Gabriola Disposal, great customer service is key; they pride themselves on always being on time!
As with each of our award recipients, community involvement and contribution is important to Sadie and Nelson. They regularly support other local business owners and the RDN and encourage Gabriolans to keep the community clean (keep up the good work at the skatepark, folks!). Gabriola Disposal disposes of bulky items that are not eligible for municipal pick-up and are otherwise challenging to deal with. Customers just need to bag loose items (no bin requirements or constraints) and this locally-owned and operated crew will haul it off island.
“To be recognized with the new business of the year award has shown us that working hard and supporting your community go hand in hand. Without the support of our customers, we wouldn’t be here and as a result, our community is the true winner!”
