The Gabriola Chamber of Commerce is seeking an Executive Director!
The Gabriola Island Chamber of Commerce was established in 1986. Chamber members are a diverse group of entrepreneurs and family-owned enterprises. Members work together for the common good of our island community by providing services, support, and networking opportunities for enterprises to succeed. Currently, the organization has 130 members and is the primary tourism management & marketing entity for Gabriola, working with Destination BC to provide visitor services, and also holds a Service Agreement with the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) to provide tourism and economic development services to Area B (Gabriola, Mudge, Decourcy).
The organization has three areas of focus:
- Membership & Operations
- Tourism Management
- Community Economic Development
The Gabriola Chamber is seeking a community minded, collaborative and innovative individual for a contract Executive Director (ED) position, (25-30 hours/week) to provide leadership and oversight for all three of the focus areas noted above and all aspects of the Chamber’s business and activities in a manner that is consistent with the Chamber’s Purpose, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
While the successful applicant will have the skills and expertise to oversee all three primary areas of focus, and be responsible for Membership & Operations, they will also hold responsibility for one of the other two areas, Tourism Management OR Community Economic Development (CED).
With the support of and in consultation with the Board, the successful ED candidate will have the opportunity to hire a contractor, (15-20 hours/week) to work in the remaining area responsibility, and provide backup support to the ED position as and when required. The successful ED candidate will also hire an administrative and marketing support position (10-15 hours/week).
This is an exciting opportunity to have the new ED hire 2 staff positions and build the team for the next evolution of the Chamber’s positive impact for its members and the broader community.
Position Details:
- Reports to the Chamber Council
- Responsible for the three focus areas of oversight, Board support and volunteer management
- 25-30 hours per week
- $28-32 per hour based on experience
- Contract position
- Manages two support staff
- CEDO or Tourism Manager 15-20 hours/week (contract position)
- Office Admin 10-15 hours/week (contract position)
- Combination of remote and in office work
- Some weekend & evening work required
